Liverpool opinion: Should the Reds make a move for Samuel Chukwueze?

The Daily Mail has reported that Manchester City and Liverpool have joined the race for La Liga starlet Samuel Chukwueze. Both sides are looking for the best and brightest to reinforce their squad and believe that the Villarreal winger is their man.

Currently plying his trade for Villarreal, the 19-year-old has made his mark this season. Yet another teenage star on his way to bigger things, the Nigerian international has enjoyed an interesting breakout season.

He has made 45 appearances this season, missing just 6 games for the senior-side but a majority of those appearances have been while coming off the bench. That hasn’t fazed the 19-year-old, having contributed to 14 goals, scoring 10 himself.

It shows his composure in the final third this season, which makes him a brilliant option for any side. A left-footer, Samuel Chukwueze is versatile and can play on either wing, thanks to his lethal combination of pace and trickery.

His style of play is eerily similar to Arjen Robben, with Chukwueze often using his left-foot to great effect. It’s what makes him perfect for Liverpool, especially with their superstar Sadio Mane heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid.

The 26-year-old former Southampton man is enjoying the season of a lifetime and is among those in the race for the Premier League golden boot. This has seen Real Madrid take a keen interest and for Liverpool, that’s a problem (Daily Mail).

That being said, while Samuel Chukwueze won’t be a direct replacement for the Senegalese international, he has the ability to replace Mane or even Mohamed Salah one day. As mentioned above, he’s a left-footed right winger who uses searing pace and clinical finishing to make himself a menace around the box.

It’s a lot like what Salah and Mane do for Liverpool, although Chukwueze does do his fair share of defensive work. His stamina and willingness to work for the side will make him a perfect fit for Jurgen Klopp’s style of play and the German’s insistence to play youngsters will help this further.

The likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andrew Robertson, and Joe Gomez showcase that.

Conclusion

Samuel Chukwueze is a star in the making and with the way Liverpool are going, they could use someone exactly like him in the near future.

The Nigerian has done well so far and at the age of 19, there’s a lot of growth and development to still come. With time and under the right manager, he could potentially become a big part of Liverpool.
