Arsenal legend and New York Red Bulls forward Thierry Henry was named as one of three finalists for the MLS League Valuable Player Award yesterday.
Henry – finalist for MVP award for the firs timeAlongside Henry, San Jose forward Chris Wondolowski and Sporting Kansas city midfielder Graham Zusi were the other two finalists who are going to battle it out for the prestigious award. Though the former world player of the year winner, had been impressive throughout his time with the Red Bulls, this is the first time Henry had been selected as a finalist for the MVP award. The 2011 MLS Best XI selection finished in fifth place in MLS in goals and assists and was voted to the 2012 MLS All-Star team last summer for the second-straight year.
Henry stats so far in MLS stands as 31 goals and 19 assists in 62 regular season appearances, out of which 61 were starts. And this season Henry went on to secure a team high of 12 assists and 15 goals in 25 appearances, which has helped him reach the finals.
Selected by Major League Soccer on criteria including fouls committed, cards received, games and minutes played as well as subjective evaluation of sportsmanlike behavior, the winner will be announced on Nov. 29.
