Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has told talkSPORT that if manager Arsene Wenger is able to sign Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, the Gunners will win the Premier League title this season. The north London side have been keeping tabs on the French international, though newly appointed Real boss Rafa Benitez has still insisted that the striker will not be sold.
Wenger has just signed Petr Cech from Chelsea this summer, though Henry feels that the ex-Lyon star can help the French manager win his first league title since the ‘Invincibles’ season in 2003/04. The former Arsenal skipper told Drivetime, I always say it’s their year but there is a genuine buzz around the place right now. I think they can challenge this year for real if they stay injury-free. Giroud alone as a striker there – you can’t win the league, you need another type of striker. I think Giroud is doing really well – he went on to score 14 goals in 18 games, that’s amazing, Henry said.
He also mentioned that if Arsenal get Benzema, Arsenal have a potential chance to win the Premier League and Champions League.
But sometimes you need a different type of striker and I think that if they can get Benzema, suddenly they are a real title contender and also in the Champions League, he added. When asked by fellow Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp whether signing Benzema would mean Arsenal would win the league, Henry said: “Yes. But the Champions League is a difficult one.”
