Genk v Liverpool Report – Liverpool Match Report and Reactions

Liverpool resumed their Champions League campaign with a thumping 4-1 win away at Genk. This result keeps them second in the group-stage table, just a point behind Napoli.

A brace from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, followed by goals from Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah was enough for the Reds. Odey did pull one back for the home side very late on.

After a confident start from Jurgen Klopp’s men, they took the lead in the second minute when Chamberlain got his shot away from outside the box into the bottom corner.

Thereafter, Genk had few opportunities to hurt the Liverpool back-line, but they weren’t clinical enough. They even had Samatta scoring his header, but the crosser Ito was offside in the build-up.

The European champions showed their quality in the second half and controlled the game better. Chamberlain made it 2-0 with a sweet, outside of the right boot finish in off the under-side of the cross bar. Roberto Firmino with an assist.

Around the 77th minute, Liverpool’s front three combined for Salah to feed Mane in to score the team’s third goal. The latter then returned the favours to the former, who did extremely well to finish off his chance.

Two minutes from time, a Dejan Lovren error in judgement allowed Genk to attack the Liverpool and score a consolation goal through Odey.

All in all, a comfortable and commanding win for Liverpool away in Belgium. Here’s how their fans reacted:
