There Is No Stopping Messi And Barcelona

Barcelona continued their perfect start to the season with yet another impressive victory. The Catalans traveled to Rayo Vallecano knowing that a win will steer them clear of Atletico Madrid for at-least 24 hours and they did exactly that scoring 5 past Rayo Vallecano. The Catalans are now on the top of the Spanish Primera Division table with 3 points clear of Atletico Madrid, who play Osasuna later today.

Messi crossed his 300th goal mark for club and country

The match started in a usual fashion as Barcelona dominated large spells of possession and it was David Villa, who drew first blood, scoring the only goal of the first half . Lionel Messi gave Barca a clear advantage just three minutes  after the break. Though Rayo Vallecano looked dangerous on counter attacks and showed some resistance, it was no stopping Messi and co. Xavi and Fabregas were also able to find the back of the net before Messi grabbed his second for the night in the closing stages of the game.

Barcelona have won eight of their nine league games this campaign, a record which their coach Vilanova is proud of.
“I’ve seen every game and know first-hand how difficult it is to achieve a record of 25 points out of 27,” Vilanova told reporters. We had very little possession in the first 15 minutes, but we always fought until the end. We deserve the points we currently have, but must also congratulate Rayo for their approach to the game. We took great comfort from (Sergio) Busquets’ performance, while (Alex) Song played a great game in a more physical position. Villa scored and we are as happy as he is. Today, we used (Martin) Montoya, and we are also very confident in (Marc) Batra. We are Barcelona, and trust our youth greatly.”
“This was the best game of the season,” he said. “We are really happy with the excellent work we produced tonight in an intense encounter. We played really well in the second half. We knew we were going to suffer in front of the Rayo supporters, but it was a real party after our second goal, when we imposed ourselves.”
The two goals scored by Messi is a milestone for the player as he crossed the 300 goal mark for in only 419 matches for club and country.
