Full Time: RSC Anderlecht 0-3 Celtic
Celtic have always been rampant in the domestic scenes. On the European stages though, it has been a mixed bag. However, it was not the case tonight, as the Scottish Champions beat Anderlecht by a 3-0 margin, courtesy of goals from Griffiths, Roberts and Sinclair.
It was the first real attack of the game that they converted as they took the lead in the 38th minute when Tierney, who had space to work in, cut the ball across to Griffiths for a tap-in.
Celtic doubled their lead in the 50th minute when some poor play from the experienced Deschacht let Roberts beat the defender comfortably and fire a shot towards the far post, which took a wicken deflect off substitute Mbodji.
It was an unnecessary risk from Deschacht and it was a gift to Roberts. With a two goal cushion, Celtic were almost there, as Anderlecht fell apart.
In the added-time, Ntcham claimed an assist as Scott Sinclair surged forward to make it 3-0 on the night. Though, Ntcham started slowly, he re-paid his manager’s faith with a good assist.
The win takes Celtic to 3rd in the table behind PSG and Bayern Munich, who are on 6 and 3 points respectively. Although the Scottish club’s progression to Europa League looks easily possible, a win or even a draw against Bayern next up would be a massive result.
