The time is right for Arsenal to offload this surprise signing made by Arsene Wenger and here’s why

Why the time is right for Arsenal to sell Elneny soon

Arsenal have started the season in fine fashion with two wins in two games.

Unai Emery spent big in the summer window, landing Nicolas Pepe. Other new arrivals, David Luiz and Dani Ceballos, also looked great in the win over Burnley.

They face a tough test at the weekend against Liverpool at Anfield but they do have some headaches regarding whom to send out.

Joe Willock has done well this season but this could be too big a test for him while Granit Xhaka should be back from an injury.

Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira could provide more bite in the midfield and Ceballos could be the creative force to break down the Liverpool defence.

One midfielder who should not be in the reckoning is Mohamed Elneny. The Guardian reports that Emery has categorically told the Egyptian to find a new club and the Gunners need to do all they can to ship him out.

Never really settled in at Arsenal

The Egyptian was a surprise signing from Basel under Arsene Wenger and the midfielder never really put up a string of great performances for the Gunners.

Elneny has struggled to keep hold of a place in the first-team and only made 10 Premier League and Europa starts combined last season.

Emery has a bunch of talented youngsters fighting for a few spots in the first-team. Ceballos has to be a starter given his ability on the ball while Willock has impressed despite being only 20.

Guendouzi and Torreira will improve further in the coming years and Xhaka can also do a great job, as long as he isn’t told to do too much defensive work.

The Gunners need to trim their team down and they have to get rid of some players now. Letting Elneny leave will reduce some of the costs incurred by the side when landing Pepe and the report claims that the Egyptian has attracted interest from Turkish clubs.

Verdict

Arsenal cannot keep Elneny on the books for too long and selling him now makes sense rather than waiting for the winter window or next season.

The European transfer window ends on 2 September, and there should be some faces leaving the Emirates before the deadline ends.
