The Shot Stopping Extraordinaire – Scouting £15 Million Rated Manchester United And Arsenal Target (Fernando Muslera)

Fernando Muslera Scout Report

The race to sign a decent goalkeeper has seen two of the big teams in England go head to head, Arsenal and Manchester United have been looking to strengthen their goalkeeping options and they both seem to have an eye for £15 million rated Fernando Muslera from Galatasaray. The Uruguayan goalkeeper was one of the hottest prospects a few years ago and we scout the keeper as a battle seems to be intensifying to get him on board.

The shot stopping extraordinaire

He might be 28-years-old but that is still young for a goalkeeper, he still would have around 6-7 years of good football left in him and for him to get better as he plays in the best leagues. Muslera started his career for Montevideo Wanderers in 2004 and then made a big money move to Nacional in 2006 before making a move to Europe with Lazio where he excelled.

He spent 4 seasons in Rome and people were expecting him to land a move to a bigger club or move to another country, especially after he helped Uruguay to a 4th place finish in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa but Galatasaray stole a march on the other teams and signed Muslera at the start of the 2011 season.

He has won the Turkish Super Lig thrice in his four seasons and it could be time for the high experienced player to make a move to another country where he can be tested a lot more often. He is a great shot stopper, especially when it comes to one on one chances. He doesn’t rush out as much as you would expect but has great positioning ability and his tall frame does help him with an intimidating figure in goal.

Muslera is also known to be one of the best shot-stoppers from the South American teams and has often shown his ability for his club and country. Muslera does have a few issues with his ball distribution and his kicking. He doesn’t have the best distribution and doesn’t have the most powerful kicks when it comes to starting counter attacks or having the accuracy to pick out a player in the other half of the pitch.

He is great at coming out and punching the ball or collecting balls from crosses, that might be his greatest asset and would be a perfect choice for Arsenal who have been looking for a goalkeeper who is willing to come out and collect the ball from crosses. Muslera is brave in the air as well and that holds in good stead as he tries to claim a lot of balls from the air.

Muslera could make the big move to either United or Arsenal next season and whichever club he does join will be incredibly happy with the player they get.
