The Best £8.5m That Liverpool Had Ever Spent On!

Coutinho could be vital this week

Well it may surprise many old-timers, but Phillipe Coutinho is really the name that most supporters want on the back of their jersey for the next season. If at all nothing else, then this goes on to show the euphoria that surrounds the pint sized Brazilian, who has managed to uplift the dying spirits of the Anfield faithful.

A true Liverpool fan can never argue the immense effects that Rafa Benitez has had over his tenure. Some critics have argued that whatever the Spaniard has done, have directly or indirectly benefited the Reds and the introduction of Coutinho to European football must be one more. After failed attempts to bring him to Liverpool, Benitez finally persuaded Inter to buy him while he managed the club. Inter bosses obliged but the player went through a difficult phase and could never adjust to life in Italy. Soon he was discarded from the team and therefore Liverpool pounced on the opportunity to get him for a cut price.

The best thing about Coutinho was that he did not arrive with the baggage of a huge money transfer. He was bought by Liverpool for £8.5m and therefore expectations were not burdened on his shoulders. But the kind of impact that Coutinho has made in the Premier League has taken everyone by surprise.

He has shown that he is a richly gifted individual and his techniques, passing and dribbling has troubled almost all the opponents. He has scored three goals and has provided with five assists, a feat rarely achieved within the first few months by a youngster from another league.

But now the entire Liverpool fans are pretty excited about the prospect of Coutinho getting the full 38 games next season. His early partnerships with Suarez and Sturridge have been quite impressive and next season he should be looking to take it to a different level altogether. If Suarez does leave Anfield after all, Coutinho will have a big role to play in the attack and the fans would be hoping that the Coutinho-Aspas-Sturridge partnership really clinks next season.

Although these are early days in the player’s career, but the “Morning shows the day”. So the football fraternity can be optimistic about the player who has done a wonderful job for his club till now.

So let us talk some stats here:

Quoted by Epl Index, Coutinho has made a total of 11 appearances for the Reds last season and has created 20 chances in his short spell at Anfield, including five assists. In terms of tackles, the Brazilian has attempted 16 tackles since joining, winning 12 (75%) of them thus far. He has attempted 103 ground duels (50-50), one every eight minutes, but has won only 42 of those. In addition to these stats he’s also winning possession back for Liverpool every 16 minutes.

Finally to sum it up, here is his performance score courtesy of squawka. The Brazilian has an incredible score of 303 for his 13 league appearances.
