Tarkowski and Heaton to start – Strongest 4-4-1-1 Burnley XI to face Cork City

Pre-season friendly: Predicted Burnley XI to face Cork City

Burnley are buzzing after making their return to European football after a lengthy absence. The Clarets finished 7th in the league last season as Sean Dyche’s men defied all odds to make an impact. The club were defensively solid and offensively sound.

Now, the club must aim for a strong pre-season tour in order to prepare the team for the Europa League campaign ahead. Burnley kick off their pre-season with a clash against Irish team Cork City which will follow a trip to face neighbours Preston North End.

Here, we take a look at the possible line-up Sean Dyche could field against Cork City.

Predicted Burnley XI

Manager: Sean Dyche

Formation: 4-4-1-1

Tom Heaton (GK)

Burnley’s shot-stopper missed the majority of last season through injury. In his absence, Nick Pope was an able deputy but it is now time for Heaton to gain match fitness in the pre-season warm-ups.

Matthew Lowton (RB)

Lowton made 25 appearances for the Clarets last season, providing 3 assists in the process. He was part of a consistent backline and should be a major part of it once again.

Ben Mee (CB)

One of Burnley’s most consistent players throughout the years, Ben Mee is a crucial part of their backline. He was injured towards the end of last season but he should return for the pre-season games.

Ben Mee

James Tarkowski (CB)

Tarkowski earned widespread praise after his performances last season. He will once again be an integral part for the club at the back.

Stephen Ward (LB)

Ward was a constant threat for the Clarets down the left flank. He scored 1 goal and provided 1 assist in 29 games last season. His runs down the wing will be influential going forward.

Robbie Brady (LM)

The midfielder was creative for the Clarets last season but missed out on several games due to an injury. His spot was then usurped by Gudmundsson, who put in excellent shifts. However, Brady should be provided with a start against Cork City.

Robbie Brady

Jack Cork (LCM)

He played every single minute for the Clarets last season and was an engine in the middle of the park, making him a vital presence.

Ashley Westwood (RCM)

Westwood played 12 games in the league last season and was impressive whenever given an outing. He should be given the nod for this game.

Aaron Lennon (RM)

Lennon is one of the most experienced players in their squad. He provided 2 assists in 12 games last season. He may not be young anymore but his presence will be important for Burnley.

Jonathan Walters (CAM)

Walters was signed from Stoke City and is a pure goalscorer. He should play this game.
