Swansea City beating Crystal Palace to sign this Merseyside starlet would be a terrific move by Cooper

Why Swansea City should beat Palace and Bristol City to Rhian Brewster

According to the Daily Mail (h/t Sun), Liverpool academy prospect Rhian Brewster is the subject of interest from Premier League rivals Crystal Palace, as well as Championship high-flyers Swansea City and Bristol City.

As reported by Sun, Palace manager Roy Hodgson feels that Brewster is more than capable of challenging the likes of Christian Benteke, Conor Wickham and Jordan Ayew for a place up top.

However, Championship duo Swansea and Bristol, as well as several clubs in Germany, are exploring the possibility of luring the teenager away from Anfield temporarily with the promise of more regular minutes, as reported by The Sun (h/t Daily Mail).

Brewster, who signed a five-year professional deal with Liverpool last summer, was sidelined with an injury for large quarters of the previous campaign but the highly-rated teenage sensation has managed to receive starts in each of the Reds’ Carabao Cup fixtures against MK Dons and Arsenal

The 19-year-old kept his composure from the penalty spot as Liverpool beat the Gunners in a dramatic penalty shootout to book their place in the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup.

Brewster made the step up to the U21 level for England and played a part in the UEFA U-21 European Championship in Italy and San Marino thus summer, having guided his nation to a triumphant campaign at the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup in India a couple of years back.

With Mo Salah, Divock Orgi, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino all ahead of him in the pecking order at Anfield, it seems unlikely that Brewster is going to play regularly for Liverpool this term.

However, it remains to be seen whether Liverpool would be keen to sanction a loan move in January to allow him to further his development elsewhere.

To put things into perspective, Swansea City should go all out in their pursuit of Rhian Brewster in January if Liverpool do send him on loan. Swansea have emerged as one of the promotion favourites following a bright start to life under new manager Steve Cooper.

Borja Baston’s unexpected resurgence has been incredible to watch but the Spaniard has been blowing hot and cold lately, meaning the Swans could definitely do with a promising striker like Brewster in their ranks.

Bournemouth loanee Sam Surridge continues to be an exciting prospect but he is yet to establish himself as a regular fixture and the door is open for someone like Brewster to come through in January.

Verdict

Apart from Baston, the Swans do not have another out-and-out striker in their ranks and the lack of quality depth in their ranks could well be exposed during the latter half of the campaign when the race for promotion goes down to the wire.

Cooper’s gamble to deploy Andre Ayew as the spearhead of the attack in the game against Cardiff City somehow paid off, with the Swans winning 1-0.

That said, having another out-and-out striker in the reserves would definitely go a long way towards boosting squad depth.

Notwithstanding the fact that Brewster doesn’t have a lot of professional experience in his CV and he is still in his formative years, the 19-year-old seems like a real talent.

Conversely, Liverpool should not hesitate to send him out on loan in January, given that the teenager needs regular exposure to hone his skills.

To that end, Rhian Brewster is certainly worth a punt for Swansea City and a move to the Liberty Stadium could be a fair settlement for all parties involved.
