Swansea beating off competition to sign this 5-goal star would very well aid promotion push

According to a report from TEAMtalk (h/t The Daily Record), Swansea City are one of the Championship clubs interested in signing Livingston forward Lyndon Dykes.

Lyndon Dykes, 24, has impressed for Gary Holt’s side this season, scoring 5 goals in 14 appearances. He also scored in Livingston’s memorable 2-0 victory over Celtic in October. The 6ft 2in forward’s impressive displays have also caught the attention of Blackburn Rovers, Bristol City, Cardiff City, Derby County and Middlesbrough, the report adds.

With Dykes, who is eligible to play for both Scotland and Australia, impressing in the Scottish Premiership, Swansea City must go all out to sign the forward in January.

Swansea are still sitting fourth in the Championship during the final international break of 2019, but they would have maintained their spot in the automatic promotion places had they avoided defeat against Nottingham Forest, Stoke City and Brentford.

They secured a 2-2 draw against Sheffield Wednesday to keep their unbeaten away record intact before the international break but the Swans must start improving their home form if they are to be challenging for promotion by the end of the season.

The Welsh club will definitely be in and around the play-offs towards the end of the season if they can pick up their home form as they have already shown their significant development under Steve Cooper away from home this campaign. Cooper, who has started very well at Swansea, must at least add a couple of players in January to maintain the promotion push.

One area Swansea are in need of reinforcements is the striking department, with Borja Baston going off the boil after a promising start to the season.

He has 6 goals in 13 games, while Andre Ayew and Sam Surridge have four and two goals respectively. For a Swansea team that likes to play attractive football under Cooper, having squad depth is important.

In that regard, Lyndon Dykes would be a good fit for Cooper’s Swansea. The 6ft 2in forward, who can play anywhere across the front-line, is almost the definition of an ‘old school number nine’. He is excellent in holding up the ball and bringing his teammates into the game, whilst possessing the ability to create chances as well.

The 24-year-old would offer a lot more than goals to Swansea and could be someone who can help link the play better.

Cooper’s side has struggled for firepower this season and Dykes should definitely bolster that in January. He certainly has the qualities to thrive in the Championship and guide the Swans to promotion.
