Sunderland opinion: The Black Cats should go for Harry Brockbank

According to East Anglian Daily Telegraph, Sunderland are interested in making a move for Harry Brockbank. The young defender has made quite an impact in his short-lived career, for both Bolton Wanderers and at Salford Town on loan.

But things haven’t quite gone according to plan for the 20-year-old. A talented star, Harry Brockbank can play anywhere in the defence, which has certainly made him a very valuable option for any club.

The EADT further adds that the 20-year-old has made both Ipswich Town and Sunderland’s shortlists. However, given the state of their back-line, it’s the Black Cats who need the move.

Finally flourishing in the League One after a rather entertaining spell for the club, Sunderland managed to reach the playoff finals. They lost to Charlton Athletic in a rather entertaining 2-1 game, and the club needs to improve things.

They have a good manager in Jack Ross, but there is only so much the 43-year-old can do. Moreover, with the club losing Max Stryjek and Connor Shields, they need new additions and their back-line has to be the first thing they make changes to.

The Black Cats conceded 47 goals, which was the third highest amongst the League One’s top six sides. Things have to change at the club, especially if Sunderland are to get back into the Premier League.

That’s exactly where someone like Harry Brockbank can come into play, and the young defender will certainly make a lasting impact at the club. He has the ability and the talent to do a lot more than his current experience might let him now.

With time and the right training, the 20-year-old will be able to fulfil his potential. A rather versatile player, the youngster has played across the back-line and often even as a right-back despite being a centre-back by trade.

It shows his defensive nuance and athleticism but like most 20-year-olds, his biggest weakness is his concentration. That’s where Harry Brockbank struggled to make a difference, with him often getting played out of the game.

Conclusion

Sunderland have to make a few changes if they club are to move past the League One in the near future. They have a good chance of doing that but only by adding someone like Harry Brockbank can the club move forward.
