Strongest Liverpool Lineup To Face Burnley – Lucas, Lallana & Sterling Set To Start

The Reds seem to be on a roll. After an awe-inspiring show of dominance against Arsenal at Anfield, Rodgers and his men are all set to conquer Turf Moor this weekend. Although the face off resulted in a tie, Liverpool seemed to have rediscovered their lost touch. Brendan Rodgers would be eyeing the game against Burnley FC to get back to their winning ways. Speaking of the fixture against Arsenal, it was perhaps, the best Premier League show off by Liverpool.

Nevertheless, the two goals which Liverpool conceded would still be a matter of concern for Rodgers. At the same time, he would be contented at the momentum which his men have picked up lately. Meanwhile, Sean Dyche’s Burnley has not had it’s dream run so far. With just one victory in the five games, the Clarets would be looking forward to register a thumping victory against the Reds. Interestingly, Burnley has turned out badly in the past four League games when it came to scoring goals. Keeping this in mind, Rodgers would be aiming at another Premier League victory against the Clarets. All said, the Boss would however, not be willing to take the Clarets nonchalantly at all. As the faceoff, awaits on Boxing day, here is our take on the possible line up of the Reds’ against Burnley at Turf Moor:

  • The Goalkeeper: Brad Jones

As the Belgian goalkeeper, Simon Mignolet continues to be sidelined from the squad in order to deliberate and contemplate over his overall form in the League, the Australian Brad Jones retains a berth in the Reds line up. The youngster has been rather decent than excellent and is likely to continue between the posts against Sean Dyche’s men.

  • The Defence: Kolo Toure, Martin Skrtel, Mamadou Sakho

With Dejan Lovren remaining sidelined from the squad owing to fitness issues, Rodgers would be betting his bottom dollar on the big Ivorian Kolo Toure to feature at the center back. Meanwhile, the right back Glen Johnson continues to walk the treatment rooms with a groin injury and thus, remains out of the squad.

Martin Skrtel, on the other hand, seems to have picked up some form with his brilliant equalizing header against Arsenal. However, the Slovak centre back is yet to show his true mettle at the back this season and would be eyeing the game against Burnley to get going for his side.

Added to this, the Frenchman Mamadou Sakho remains the top drawer in Rodgers’ wish list to shore up the defence.

    • The Midfield: Steven Gerrard, Philippe Coutinho, Lucas Leiva, Jordan Henderson, Raheem Sterling, Adam Lallana

The Reds’ skipper Steven Gerrard struggled to build on his splendid performance against Bournemouth in the last game. Despite this, he remains the most crucial player for the squad and has the quintessential responsibility of bucking up the middle of the park, along with safeguarding the defence and reinforcing the attack.

All that said, Brendan Rodgers would be keen on deploying Lucas Leiva after some impressive displays recently. However, German midfielder Emre Can also seems to be a strong contender in the midfield line up. Both Leiva and Can have performed up to their capabilities for the team. It would be interesting to see whom Rodgers would pick against Burnley. Till then, Leiva would be featured on our cards.

Philippe Coutinho’s strike against the Gunners will likely hand him another outing in the starting eleven.  In addition, the boss would be counting on Jordan Henderson to start at the right-wing back. The young Englishman Raheem Sterling remains Rodgers’ favourite for the top eleven. Adam Lallana, too, might turn out to be instrumental at Turf Moor.

  • The Striker: Mario Balotelli

As Rickie Lambert struggles to find any form in the Premier League, the big guy Mario Balotelli makes his way to the squad. The Italian striker had remained out of action against the Reds, owing to a one match ban. With the ban now being over and done, Balotelli would now look forward to lead the strike for the Reds against the Clarets.
