Stoke City snapping up this 26-year-old star in the summer would strengthen a key position next season – opinion

Stoke City opinion: Should the Potters make a move for Adam Davies?

Stoke City need reinforcements next summer, especially if they ever want a chance of returning back to the Premier League. They finished the Championship in a rather decent position at 16th place, which is neither good nor bad. However, it’s far off from what they are really capable of doing in the truth.

The sheer fact that they actually got relegated seems surreal at the moment, but given their performances last season, things need to improve. But the fact that they’ve managed to keep ahold of the likes of Jack Butland, Joe Allen and even Bruno Martins Indi is simply incredible.

At the moment, the trio are earning Premier League style wages and that does pose a problem for a Championship side.

It means that a large portion of their transfer budget goes into paying wages, which has further added to the Potters’ problems. They need to get that off their books and they need to do that very soon, especially if they want a chance to stay afloat.

That being said, it seems that the club could end up losing goalkeeper Jack Butland next summer and replacing him will be tough. The 25-year-old has been a big part of the club, making well over a 100 appearances for the club.

Yet, to replace him it seems that Stoke City are targeting a cost-effective method with the Stoke Sentinel reporting that the Potters are interested in a move for Adam Davies. Currently contracted to Barnsley, the 26-year old’s contract with the club expires at the end of the season.

That has seen a whole host of clubs report their interest. The likes of Wolves, Bristol City, Hull City, Birmingham City, Brentford and even Barnsley are interested in his services the Sentinel further adds.

It shows just how highly rated the 26-year-old has become since being dropped by Everton’s U-21 side. This season, Adam Davies has kept 19 clean sheets in the League One, which puts him tied at the top spot for clean sheets.

It shows just how talented the goalkeeper is at his job and why he would be a great move for Stoke City. Jack Butland’s presence at the club was always temporary once they reached the Championship and using a cost-effective method of replacing him will help.

Conclusion

To replace Jack Butland with the budget that they have in the Championship will be an incredible task for Stoke City, but by adding Adam Davies they stand a chance.

The 26-year-old isn’t in the same bracket as the English international but has the ability and has shown the talent to do just as well for the Potters.
