According to the Stoke Sentinel, Stoke City are still deadlocked in their negotiations with teenager Tyrese Campbell over a new contract, with the report suggesting that talks between both parties are yet to reach a positive end.
The same report claims that the 19-year-old highly-rated teenager is considering still considering his options, with his current contract at the bet 365 Stadium set to expire next summer.
Stoke manager Nathan Jones, however, has ruled out such speculations, insisting that talks over a new deal for the young forward are still very much in progress. (h/t Stoke Sentinel)
Campbell is yet to start a game for the Potters in the Championship this term, having only played three cameos from the bench in the club’s fixtures against QPR, Charlton Athletic and Derby County.
The 19-year-old started in Stoke’s penalty-shootout victory over Leeds United in the EFL Cup, though, putting in a wonderful performance as the Potters dumped the West Yorkshire giants out of the competition after losing 3-0 at home against Marcelo Bielsa’s side in the Championship last week.
Born in Manchester, Campbell started his career in the youth ranks of Man City but he turned down the opportunity to turn professional with the Citizens.
Instead, he joined Stoke City in 2016 and after impressing with his prolific form for the U-18s, the talented striker was handed his senior professional debut against Leicester City in the Premier League in the 2017-18 season.
The youngster featured sporadically in the Championship last season but he grabbed the headlines in his first start for the club, scoring a sensational brace in a 3-2 victory over Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup in January 2019.
Having found regular first-team opportunities hard to come by at his parent club, the teenager completed a loan move to Shrewsbury Town for the second half of the 2018-19 season, where he scored 5 goals in 15 League One appearances.
To put things into perspective, it should be an absolute no-brainer for Stoke City to secure the 19-year-old’s future with a new deal at the earliest.
Regarded as a promising young player with loads of potential, there is every chance that the starlet could possibly evolve into a future star and the Potters might be left to regret his departure if he goes on to fulfil his promise elsewhere.
Agreed, Campbell has struggled to cement a significant role for the Potters thus far but they might as well consider using him more frequently after his performance against Leeds in the EFL Cup.
Nathan Jones needs to find a solution to overturn his dismal start to the league campaign, which has seen the Potters suffer defeats in four out of their first five games and promoting the teenager to the starting eleven could pay rich dividends for the club.
With Benik Afobe out on loan at Bristol City, Stoke are expected to rely on the likes of Scott Hogan, Sam Vokes and Lee Gregory to deliver the goals but someone like Campbell, with his pace, sharpness and ability to terrorise defences, provides Jones with a much-needed X-Factor on the bench.

All in all, it is imperative to say that the 19-year-old could go on to hit great heights in the future and losing an exciting prospect like him on a free transfer next summer would be such a shame for Stoke City.
That said, they should do everything in their power to convince the youngster to pen a new deal.
