Stats Talk: Why Arsenal’s Stiker Is Much Better Than This Spaniard And Why Wenger Has To Avoid Signing Him

It has been a season where strikers have been hard to get for the Premier League clubs and only Liverpool and Chelsea have been the two clubs who have made deals for some quality strikers. However, today we compare the two strikers which have made some different impressions for their club, Alvaro Negredo and Oliver Giroud, the reason being a rumour about Wenger wanting Negredo at the Emirates. While Negredo had a decent first season at Manchester City, he was loaned out to Spanish giants Valencia last season and the following year he made his move to the Mestalla side permanent.

Oliver Giroud is a 28-year old striker who has been playing for Arsenal since 2012. The French international has had mixed seasons at Arsenal but he had a dream run of form when he came back from injury in November. Wenger initially had some doubts to pay an initial fee of 10 million euros for the services of the striker but Giroud has stepped up his game and well he has been a bang for the buck. Also, Wenger commented on the striker’s performance earlier this season ‘Oliver Giroud is a top-level footballer’. Well we all know how highly Arsenal fans and pundits rate the former Montpellier man and it comes as a no brainer when Wenger makes some amazing comments for his French compatriot.

According to Squawka, Giroud’s total score for the previous season is around 400 while Negredo’s total score for the last season is nearly half of Giroud and it ranges around 210. Speaking about Giroud’s attack score, the website rates the Frenchman’s score at a whopping 623 points while Negredo’s score tally is less than half of Giroud and it is below 300. Also, Giroud has scored 14 goals for the season and was the sixth highest goal scorer as he shared the spot with Chelsea star Eden Hazard and English prodigy Saido Berahino.

Giroud was also the second goal scorer for the season for Arsenal missing the spot by two goals to Arsenal’s golden boy Alexis Sanchez. While Negredo could only score four goals for the Spanish side the entire season. The 29-year old was the fourth highest goal scorer for Valencia. Also, Negredo assisted 4 goals and Giroud contributed with 3 assists for the Gunners last season. Valencia have paid a staggering fee of 30 million euros to acquire the services of Alvaro Negredo from Manchester City after a mediocre season, it would be interesting to see how they use the striker for the coming season.

CONCLUSION:

Comparing Giroud and Negredo, we could certainly say that Giroud was very much better than Negredo and Negredo wasn’t even mighty close to Giroud’s performance. So, if Negredo and Giroud have to be realistically compared Negredo needs to improve his game by four folds and Giroud needs to be consistent as he was the previous season.
