Arsene Wenger was not known as a manager who would spend big on players to add to his squad. But in his 20 years of service at the Emirates, the first time he spent big was to lure Real Madrid star Mesut Ozil to the club a few years ago. The German international has now grown on to become one of the best players in the world but not long ago, there were North London fans that wanted him to be axed from the first team after a few mediocre performances in the first season.
Ozil, with all the technical ability that he has, is one of the most gifted players in world football. He possesses a great technique with the ball while his vision is just exemplary. His understanding of the game allows him to stay ahead of opposition defenders which help him and his side to compete with the best in the league. He has only gone on to become better the more time he has spent in the Premier League and this season, he is easily the most important player in the side (alongside Alexis Sanchez) if the Gunners are to lift their first Premier League trophy in more than a decade.
Even with such influential returns, there is an impending doubt that the midfielder has not been able to replicate his form as consistently as he did in his time in Spain. At Real Madrid, Mesut Ozil played alongside some of the best players in the world and he looked like a player who could create a goal with almost every touch of the ball. However, with the Gunners, Ozil has had his own share of games where he was absent, but on his day, he has helped Arsenal to take their game to the next level.

Though this might look true, stats show otherwise. The German midfielder played a role in 51 goals so far in the 90 games at the Emirates. It is a return that is more than just impressive in the league like this. But what is more impressive is the fact that he has managed the same stat in Spain. It shows that Ozil has maintained great levels of consistency even after shifting the league and also highlights the fact that after a slow start, he is more than making up for it recently.
There is no doubt that the former La Liga duo Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil are the most important players this season for the Gunners but Ozil might have a bigger role at the club this season. They have started the campaign in fine fashion but they will need to keep up the good work throughout the season to have a shot at the title and Ozil is the one who can help them. He will have to stay at his best till the end of the season and help players around him when it is not their day. He should carry the responsibilities of his side and should help them out even on a bad day. Surely, he will have a huge role to play for the Gunners in their title race this season.
