Germany has enough talent to field at least 4 competitive teams for a football match. As insane as the statement sounds, it’s quite accurate and was reinforced when Joachim Low announced his 23-man squad for the World Cup.
While the German squad looks talented and capable of winning the World Cup, some big players were not picked for the event and they must be feeling unfortunate. Here’s a Germany XI featuring the most notable World Cup absentees.
Instrumental in back to back CL qualifications for Hoffenheim, Baumann presents himself as a very good goalkeeping option. The 27-year-old shot-stopper is known for great reflexes and a good ability to save shots from long range.
Hertha Berlin’s attacking right-back possesses great pace and technical ability. Weiser’s versatility is another thing that makes him stand out as a very useful squad player. The 24-year-old is a very good crosser of the ball and can also operate as a right-winger when needed.
The Arsenal man hasn’t had the best of seasons but he is a good ball-playing defender who would be an asset to most teams. The former Valencia defender would be massively disappointed to miss out on the World Cup after being involved with the national team set-up for long.
Howedes is another big name to miss out on the world cup. Following his loan move from Schalke to Juventus, the big German failed to get enough playing time to be considered for selection.
The experienced Borussia Dortmund left-back has fallen down the pecking order in the German national team set up. Known for his composed and balanced game, Schmelzer can be a good left-back for any side.
The Liverpool man is in great demand in the transfer market with Juventus in pole position to sign him up. However, the midfielder will be gutted to not be on the plane to Russia in about 2 weeks.
Kramer is a solid defensive midfielder who does his job very efficiently. The Gladbach man has no real weaknesses in his game and deserves more recognition.
Perhaps, the most notable miss in Germany’s squad for Russia. From being the World Cup winning hero to being left out of the squad, Gotze must be crestfallen.
Karim Bellarabi hasn’t been at his best recently but the massive talent is there to be seen for everyone. The Bayer Leverkusen wide player has great dribbling ability to add flair to any side.
The former Arsenal player has been nicking in quite a few goals for Hoffenheim. His lightning pace combined with his deadly finishing can cause problems to most defences.
A late bloomer, yet a very effective player, Wagner had a great case for being on the plane to Russia. The 30-year-old Bayern striker was in great form all season.
