Tottenham signing this 25-year-old workhorse who set the World Cup on fire would be a shrewd move by Poch

Why Tottenham should rekindle interest in Ante Rebic

Tottenham Hotspur have perhaps been the most underwhelming team out of the big-six so far and have a difficult fixture ahead. They face bitter rivals Arsenal at the Emirates in a game they absolutely need to win.

They’ve made some interesting signings but they haven’t settled yet and are having real trouble breaking sides that sit deep while also being quite porous in the defence.

One of the reasons for this has been a real lack of creativity. Mauricio Pochettino has reduced Christian Eriksen’s minutes this season and while the Dane did make an impact in the game against Villa off the bench, he could not do the same against Newcastle at home.

One player Spurs are really missing is former right-back Kieran Trippier, who was one of their most creative players despite his lack of defensive awareness. He was great at set-pieces, corners and had a fantastic delivery that would open up a defence and allow Spurs to take the initiative.

A player they were linked with was Eintracht Frankfurt’s Ante Rebic. Had they succeeded in signing him, he would’ve helped add some natural width and provide a creative outlet.

The 25-year-old Croatian international scored 10 goals and provided 6 assists last season and is an absolute workhorse, which would fit in perfectly with Mauricio Pochettino’s system.

He can play on either wing and would give them natural width as he did in the World Cup on the right and put in crosses for the likes of Harry Kane.

Spurs are extremely narrow right now with the likes of Heung-Min Son and Lucas Moura and no one really taking the width and putting deliveries for their attacking players to attack into.

Spurs’ great chapter might ultimately end without any silverware as this is no longer the young and exciting team that Pochettino had built. It’s now an ageing side that looks disinterested and even a manager as good as Pochettino seems unable to lift them up.
