Jurgen Klopp’s men have made a mixed start to the league campaign, not showing any consistency early this season. The Reds managed to finish 4^th in the points table last season. Spending More On Ox Than On The Backline

There is little doubt that Liverpool’s backline is one of the worst in the Premier League. Be it the personnel or their system, the Reds just cannot seem to stop conceding soft goals, which is haunting them for a full two-years after Klopp has taken charge of the club. A 20-goal Striker

Though not an impending problem at the moment, Liverpool do lack a player who can score 20+ goals a season on a consistent basis. Daniel Sturridge is the only name in the squad capable of reaching such figures but he is far from being the first choice at the club at the moment and Liverpool will surely feel the need for such a player later in the season. It is something that Klopp needs to address to get Liverpool back to their previous best.

Intransigence To Sign Alternatives

More importantly, Klopp’s stubbornness to not pursue alternatives for his first-choice transfer targets is surely going to affect their chances of silverware this season. The first name that comes to our mind is Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk.

The Dutch international was not allowed to leave St. Mary’s in the summer. Klopp decided to not sign another CB but to wait for the 26-year old. Liverpool do not have the personnel who can hold the fort until they get their hands on the Southampton man, and so deciding not to spend on any other CB may just be the decision that could ruin the club’s chances this season.
