Southampton snapping up this £20m sensation would be money well spent and Hasenhuttl must get him

Southampton opinion: Should the Saints sign Victor Osimhen?

According to a report from MSN, Southampton have joined the race for the signing of Wolfsburg’s 20-year-old sensation Victor Osimhen in the summer. The Nigerian is currently on loan at Belgian side RSC Charleroi for whom he has been a star this season.

The report reveals that Osimhen had already verbally agreed a deal with AC Milan over a summer move, which would have then seen him move out on loan to Ligue 1 side Lille for the 2019/20 campaign.

However, Southampton are confident of getting their man in the summer and the report reveals that he is highly-rated at Wolfsburg, so much so that the Bundesliga outfit will demand a fee of £20million for him in the summer.

Southampton had a right scare this season about their status as a Premier League team but the appointment of Ralph Hasenhuttl changed their fortunes. The Saints have lost just 9 of their 21 games under the Austrian, which has kept them in the top-flight for another season.

Southampton’s biggest problem this season has been their attack. The Saints don’t have a single player in their squad who has been able to hit double figures in terms of goals this season. This has hampered their season massively and an attacker has to be a priority for Hasenhuttl in the summer.

The likes of Shane long, Charlie Austin and Danny Ings have failed to have a consistent impact this season and at least two of the above three need to be sold in the summer.

Southampton will need to bring in fresh blood, who will suit Hasenhuttl’s style of play, and Osimhen could prove to be a very smart signing.

The Nigerian has been in fine form in his loan spell at RSC Charleroi this season, having scored 16 goals in all competitions so far. A centre-forward by trade, Osimhen has been used on the left-wing twice this season and he has scored 3 times from out wide.

Osimhen is a strong and agile centre-forward, who despite being a bit over 6 feet tall, has a giant leap in him which makes him a massive threat in the box. The 20-year-old is also incredibly composed in front of goal and is highly reliable from the penalty spot as well.

Conclusion

Southampton could make a huge statement of intent if they manage to beat AC Milan to the signing of Victor Osimhen in the summer. The 20-year-old will most certainly bring them goals next season and under Hasenhuttl’s guidance, he could take his game to the next level.
