Southampton signing this 22-goal sensation would sort out their attacking future for a number of years

Southampton opinion: Saints should not hesitate to sign Jarrod Bowen

According to Hull Daily Mail, Jarrod Bowen’s future at the KCOM Stadium continues to be up in the air, as the Tigers prepare to brace themselves for approaches from several Premier League clubs for the highly-rated 22-year-old forward.

Hull Daily Mail understands that Southampton have emerged as the favourites to sign Bowen, who netted 22 goals in the Championship for the Tigers this past season and finished as the top scorer at the club.

Bowen has been linked with a move to the Premier League since January when the likes of Spurs and Cardiff City showed interest in the emerging star.

An array of top-flight clubs, including Arsenal and Everton, have been credited with an interest in the 22-year-old over the past few months, although Southampton are now the odds-on favourite to complete a deal for Bowen this summer (h/t Hull Daily Mail).

Quite clearly, Bowen’s future continues to be a hot topic of discussion in the summer transfer window, with so many clubs hot on the trail of the 22-year-old.

The right-winger is into the final 12 months of his contract at the KCOM Stadium but Hull City are still likely to demand a sizeable fee to part ways with their prized asset.

Meanwhile, Southampton have already made a strong statement of intent this summer with the £15million acquisition of striker Che Adams from Birmingham City, whilst Malian international winger Moussa Djenepo has also arrived at St. Mary’s for £15million from Belgian club Standard Liege.

Ralph Hasenhuttl looks set for a youthful overhaul of the squad this summer and his decision to bring in the likes of Adams and Djenepo certainly underpins that.

Danny Ings’ loan deal from Liverpool has also become permanent but the manager has a decision to make on the future of several players in the club’s loan army, including the likes of Sofiane Boufal, Guido Carrillo, Jordy Clasie and Cedric Soares.

However, the Saints have somewhat balanced their books from the sales of Matt Targett and Sam Gallagher to Aston Villa and Blackburn respectively.

To put things into perspective, it is quite clear that Hasenhuttl is trying to build a completely new-look Southampton side and someone like Jarrod Bowen would certainly enrich the Austrian’s attacking ranks for the foreseeable future.

Bowen’s potential was there for everybody to see in the Championship last season and it is easy to see why and how the Saints would benefit from having a burgeoning talent in their side.

As evident from the style of play that Hasenhuttl adopted following his arrival at Southampton back in December, the German boss favours sharp, agile and pacey players up front to hit the opposition on the break.

While the Saints have already spent big on two attackers this summer, Bowen fits the bill and he would definitely be a tailor-made fit for the manager’s philosophy with his pace, skills, clinical finishing, work ethics, dribbling skills, intelligent movement and well-rounded technical abilities.

Moreover, the left-footed assassin also offers a lot with his work rate on and off the ball. Bowen is still very much in the developmental phase of his career and at 22, the time might just be right for him to complete a move to the Premier League following a season of resounding success in the Championship.
