Solskjaer should ensure Man United beat Inter Milan to sign this explosive 25-year-old Serie-A star to replace Valencia

Manchester United Opinion: Should the Red Devils sign Elseid Hysaj?

According to a report from Calciomercato, Inter Milan are interested in Napoli full-back Elseid Hysaj and even contacted his agent earlier this month.

Inter Milan’s desire to capture Elseid Hysaj from Napoli in the summer could help them find a replacement for Sime Vrsaljko, who is on a season-long loan from Atletico Madrid. He won’t remain with the Nerazzurri beyond this season.

Elseid Hysaj, 25, has been in and out of the team under Carlo Ancelotti, playing 22 games in all competitions this season. But his consistent performances over the last couple of years for Napoli have certainly caught Inter’s attention. However, Manchester United should look to beat the Serie A club for the full-back’s signature in summer.

Manchester United’s Ashley Young was rewarded with a one-year contract extension after the 33-year-old’s original deal was due to expire at the end of the current season. Young has played a key role for the Red Devils this term, featuring in 24 matches across all competitions, despite competing with Diogo Dalot and Antonio Valencia for a regular spot at right-back.

Antonio Valencia

While Young has performed admirably well, he has entered the twilight of his career. Diogo Dalot, who joined Manchester United from Porto in summer, is deemed as a long-term replacement for Antonio Valencia, while Matteo Darmian is set to leave the club at the end of the season.

Valencia, meanwhile, is still the skipper of the club but has found it hard to nail down a regular starting spot this season. It doesn’t look like the Ecuadorian will be handed a new deal as United seem set to run down the last few months of his contract.

Losing Valencia would be a big blow for the Red Devils at the end of the season as he has been a consistent performer at right-back for the last couple of years. But United could do a good job by replacing Valencia with Elseid Hysaj.

Able to play either as a right-back or a left-back, Elseid Hysaj is highly rated in Serie A football and will thrive at United under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has enjoyed a blistering start since replacing Mourinho in mid-December.

Hysaj is one of those players who does a lot of good work going forward and is capable of excellent delivery from wide areas. The Albanian has good pace, and he contributes a lot going forward, whilst being defensively diligent. He is more controlled and disciplined as a full-back and in some ways, that balance will help Solskjaer rotate as per the requirements of the game.

The 25-year-old has the requisite experience at the top level and his acquisition would help him mentor the promising Dalot. And that move could potentially see Young become a back-up to Luke Shaw.

United are certain to spend big in summer to compete with the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool for the top prizes. They must make reinforcing the right-back position with Elseid Hysaj one of the priorities ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.
