“So happy”, “Great start to the season”: Some Leeds fans on cloud nine after easy 2-0 win vs Wigan + Match report

Wigan Athletic v Leeds United Report: Leeds United Match Report

Leeds United hit back in the Championship after last week’s draw, with a comfortable 2-0 win over 10-man Wigan Athletic away at the DW Stadium. Patrick Bamford scored both the goals for Marcelo Bielsa’s men.

In a game where the Whites had more control of the ball and were the better side, Wigan were unable to take risks with the ball and trouble the opposition back line.

Around the 21st minute, the home side had their work cut out when Joe Williams was sent off following his second bookable offence after colliding with Bamford.

Thirteen minutes later, Leeds took the lead via their striker after Adam Forshaw’s header came off the post but the former was there to tap in. It was a soft goal to concede from Wigan’s point of view.

Bamford made it two in the 65th minute, heading home from a lovely corner. At that moment, the game was killed as 10-man Wigan had no control of the game, and a two-goal deficit was too much for them.

Leeds had other chances to win the game by a larger margin, but Forshaw saw his effort drift wide of the post, while Pablo Hernandez’s free-kick was well saved by Wigan keeper David Marshall.

All in all, a good win for Bielsa’s men against a team they dropped points against at home last season. The numerical advantage did help them but the movement of the ball and the attacking intent was there from minute one.
