“So excited by this squad”, “Big 3 points”: Some Leicester City fans react to 3-1 win vs Bournemouth + Match Report

Leicester City vs Bournemouth report: Leicester City match report

Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy was involved in all three goals as Brendan Rodgers’ side beat Bournemouth 3-1 at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.

Vardy opened the scoring in the 12th minute when he took advantage of Bournemouth’s high line to break the offside trap and latch onto Ben Chilwell’s long ball, lobbing the ball over goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale who was caught in no man’s land.

Bournemouth hit back within three minutes when Callum Wilson clipped the ball in off the post after meeting Ryan Fraser’s pass that bisected Leicester’s defense. Vardy set up Youri Tielemans for Leicester’s second goal with a low pass across the six-yard box that the Belgium midfielder turned home. And Vardy sealed the deal for the hosts midway through the second half.

From kick-off, it was immediately clear Leicester would get plenty of opportunities due to Bournemouth’s lack of defensive compactness. As expected, the Foxes took the lead through Vardy, who fantastically lobbed the ball over Ramsdale. But the hosts’ lead lasted only three minutes.

Bournemouth’s Fraser and King teamed up, with the former threading the England international in behind after the latter escaped Soyuncu’s attention and tucked it beyond Kasper Schmeichel. Leicester responded by upping the ante but they were let down by the final ball.

Vardy then turned provider for Leicester’s second, beating Steve Cook on the right side of the box on the dribble before playing the ball across goal for Tielemans, who made it 2-1.

There was some drama early in the second half, with the VAR checking for a potential red card for Tielemans. The Belgian had stepped in to shield the ball and planted his studs on Wilson’s ankle, but it wasn’t intentional and he escaped without punishment.

Harvey Barnes saw a curling effort palmed away by Ramsdale before Vardy grabbed his second to make it 3-1. James Maddison nicked the ball off the Bournemouth backline and the ball fell to Tielemans, whose pass back into the box was taken first time by Vardy to clinch the victory.
