Leicester City Opinion: Fede Vico signing is the alteration the Foxes need

Leicester City’s capitulation at the hands of a rampant Crystal Palace last weekend painted a fairly clear picture of how the Foxes’ season was going. They started the game at the King Power Stadium on the back-foot, looking like they were the away side.

After coming out strong in the second period, they equalised, but this spirit didn’t last long as their defence seemed to fall apart. While the scoreline certainly doesn’t flatter them at all, they did have multiple opportunities in the first part of the game to display a reaction.

But this reaction lasted for too short a duration and over the course of the game, Palace were the better side. When looked at closely, it is slowly becoming explicit that there is an alarming lack of pace in this Foxes’ front-line.

Both James Maddison and Harvey Barnes are excellent creative players but neither of them is a winger. While Jamie Vardy has his fair share of pace, at 32, he certainly isn’t getting any faster.

A pacy winger is the primary requirement to liven up this highly talented Foxes attack. Although Demarai Gray offers quite of bit of mobility on one flank, Algerian winger Rachid Ghezzal has failed to live up to the massive expectations that were placed on him.

Barnes and Maddison prefer to play in central roles and this is a conundrum that Leicester City need to solve at the earliest possible opportunity. Given their current circumstances, making a move for this Leganes forward could turn out to be smart.

Currently on loan at La Liga 2 side Granada CF, the 24-year-old Spaniard is a product of the Córdoba academy and was signed by Anderlecht way back in 2013. After 3 years in Belgium, he was released by the club before eventually being signed by Leganes last summer.

His immediate loan move to Granada has been important in his development. Having played for the Spanish second-tier club 26 times this campaign, he has already scored an impressive 4 goals while assisting another 4 as well.

Supremely tricky on the ball and with the confidence required to beat a man, the Spaniard has grown as a player over the last few years. He is now intelligent with his running but is also more than capable of picking out a cross-field pass.

Finishing is one of his feared attributes as he tends to be a predator inside the box. His movement and skill will certainly complement the creativity of players like Barnes and Maddison. This Spaniard is bound to be a hit at the King Power Stadium and the Foxes must try to attain his signature.
