Signing this Scottish veteran from Derby County for free will be an outstanding move by Rangers

Why Derby’s Craig Bryson will be a smart signing by Rangers

Rangers are currently well placed near the top of the Scottish Premier League. Level on points with fierce rivals Celtic, Rangers hold the disadvantage of having played one game more than the Hoops in the race for the title. Kilmarnock are also keeping up the pace and are within touching distance of the top spot.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard will be hoping that new signings Stephen Davis and Jermaine Defoe are able to boost the attacking effectiveness of this Rangers side. They must go on a prolonged winning run to create some daylight between them and the rivals.

After going on a 10-game unbeaten run from October till December, they have recently lost 3 of their last 6 games, which is sure to be very concerning to the fans and the staff. With Celtic setting such a brisk pace, it was obvious that winning the title wouldn’t be an easy task for Steven Gerrard’s side.

A central midfielder who can really provide defensive cover should be on Gerrard’s mind though. While there are various youngsters available to him, an experienced campaigner will be better suited to a situation where the championship is hanging in the balance. They will be looking to secure it at the earliest possible opportunity.

Their search for a new midfielder could’ve been completed within Scotland given the number of talented players available but Rangers have been looking at Derby County’s talented midfielded veteran Craig Bryson according to reports from DerbyshireLive.

He is a defensive midfielder who is excellent at covering his backline. His defensive work rate is supremely high while his age doesn’t stop him moving around and making challenges. His tackling and interceptions will be extremely useful for Rangers in the second part of the season.

He has been at Derby County since joining the English side from Kilmarnock in 2011. Rangers have looked good in both the attack and the defence, and while Celtic hold a small advantage for now, there’s still a large part of the season left where Rangers can make up for lost time.

While Bryson’s defensive effort will be very useful to Gerrard’s side, his positioning and quick passing will be crucial in keeping the ball flowing for the Glasgow side. With the recent additions too at Gerrard’s disposal, Rangers have a very good chance of pushing for the title.
