Signing This £30m Celtic Attacker Could Mean Everton Will Hit The League By A Storm Next Season – Agreed?

Why Signing Moussa Dembele From Celtic Will Be Massive For Everton

Everton are set to smash their transfer record once again this summer as they prepare a £30million bid for Celtic hotshot Moussa Dembele in the summer as a direct replacement for Romelu Lukaku according to reports from The Scottish Sun.

The Toffees have been extremely active in the transfer market and have already gone on to break their transfer record when they signed goalkeeper Jordan Pickford from Sunderland for £25million (plus £5million in add-ons) last week. Apart from Pickford, the Merseysiders have also managed to seal the signature of Davy Klaassen  as well from AFC Ajax for a fee of £23.6 million.

Manager Ronald Koeman, in his first season in-charge at the club, led Everton to a 7th-placed finish in the Premier League and in the process, managed to seal qualification for the UEFA Europa League playoff stages for the upcoming season. The quality of the signings are a strong indicator of the direction the club are heading in under the former Southampton manager.

However, the potential exit of star striker Romelu Lukaku in the summer remains a huge point of concern for the manager and the club. The 24-year old Belgian international finished last season as the second-highest goal-scorer in the Premier League behind Harry Kane of Tottenham Hotspur.

Despite enjoying a stellar campaign, Lukaku seems to have his mind set on a move away from the Goodison Park in the summer. The striker just has one year left on his existing contract with Everton, but he refused to sign an extension with the club, paving way for a potential exit in the summer. Lukaku’s former club Chelsea are the prime contenders to sign him in the transfer window, while Manchester United too have been credited with interest in him.

Everton seemed to be resigned to losing their star marksman in the summer and have been scouting the market for a replacement and now they have closed down on Celtic’s Moussa Dembele. The 20-year old was one of the most sought-after forwards in the Premier League last summer after his contract expiry with Fulham, but he opted to move to the Scottish champions, where he enjoyed an excellent debut campaign.

Dembele finished the season with 32 goals from 49 appearances for the Hoops, helping them complete a domestic treble. As a result, he has once again attracted serious interests from several top clubs.

However, Everton are willing to break the club transfer record once again in order to sign the Frenchman from Brendan Rodgers’ side in the summer. He may not have the experience and can be considered only as a raw talent, but there is no doubt that Dembele is meant for stardom.

The France U-21 international possesses the raw pace, the power and the excellent finishing ability that will enable him to fill in the vacant shoes of Lukaku with much ease. The fact that he set up 9 goals for Celtic last season also gives an indication that Dembele has the ability to create chances for his teammates in equal measure. Dembele may be tempted with the interests from the bigwigs, but the fact that he will be a guaranteed first-choice striker role at the Goodison Park should give Everton an edge in their pursuit of the marksman.

Everton have already made their intentions clear with two top class signings so early in the transfer window and if they manage to add Dembele to their roster as well, it will be a huge statement of intent from the club. Signing the 20-year old attacker will be the perfect way to announce themselves as a strong contender for the Champions League spots next season.
