Why Signing £20million Bournemouth Star Lewis Cook Would Be A Great Move By Liverpool

Liverpool are in dire need of a new midfielder and as per latest reports, Jurgen Klopp is understood to be lining up a shock summer swoop for Bournemouth midfielder Lewis Cook. The 21-year-old has been quite impressive for Bournemouth this season even as things kept crumbling for the club.

The Cherries have endured a forgettable season so far and are currently gracing the 11th spot in the league standings. Through all the ups and downs, Cook has been a constant for them and whether or not they are willing to sell him will be the only hurdle for Liverpool.

That said, there is no doubt that their attempt to sign Cook will be a huge bargain of sorts. The young star boasts of tremendous potential and talent and he could be available for as cheap as £20million. In a world of inflated price tags and skyrocketing values, it is a major coup for any club to be able to sign a player as skilled as Cook for that amount. But is he worth splashing the cash on or should Klopp consider other options instead?

The Reds are expected to lose Emre Can this summer, who is believed to be on the verge of completing a move to Juventus. Once that happens, they will only have Georginio Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson in hand – both of whom are known to be quite injury-prone. Even though Naby Keita is set to arrive at Anfield from RB Leipzig once this season comes to an end, there is no doubt that Liverpool still need reinforcements.

A move for Cook seems like a decent choice but there is a risk factor. He is still quite young and inexperienced when it comes to playing at the top level.

Also, Liverpool have fielded a spectacular attack this season and if they manage to sign a solid goalkeeper in the upcoming transfer window, there is nothing that can stop the club from making a title challenge next season. In a situation like that, having a player like Cook could either boost their performances remarkably or bring them down.

Hence, Klopp will have to decide if Cook is worth the risk. To be fair, this will be an immense opportunity for the starlet but given the requirement, he might have to bite off more than he can chew and that can only create further problems for Liverpool. At face value, Cook seems like a solid option for the Merseysiders but are they willing to take that risk for him? Only time will tell.
