What Does The Signing Of This Swiss International Mean To Arsenal’s Under-rated Defender

A lot of top managers from England have been keen on singing new high quality players in order to strengthen their squad, prior to the start of the new campaign. The case is no different for all clubs across the continent, as the Euro 2016 tournament goes on. Every team wants to win this competition and treats it as a mini-rehearsal for the upcoming World Cup, as many of the former European champions have gone on to win the big one.

Players want to impress for their respective sides as well and catch the attention of various clubs including their own, in order to cement a regular place in the starting eleven for the upcoming campaign.

However, one such player who will not be getting this chance to impress for The Three Lions will be the 26 year old Arsenal left-back Kieran Gibbs, who was dropped by manager Roy Hodgson from his squad.

The defensive superstar has not been having a good time at the Emirates, as he has fallen down the pecking order to Spaniard Nacho Monreal and has really struggled for a proper game time, with manager Arsene Wenger preferring the 30 year old superstar instead.

The former Norwich City loanee will have been surely disappointed by the fact that he was not selected for the England national side, but the lack of game time would have been a major fact in that decision being taken by Hodgson.

Gibbs is a player who has fit into Wenger’s style of football at north London and enjoys the passing game, with short passes and runs off the ball. In 2016, the defender has played five Premier League games and five matches in the FA Cup.

Apart from one full appearance in the top flight of English football and five others in the domestic cup, he has been barely used by the French boss and has been struggling more or less for game time. This must have surely frustrated the 26 year old star, who might now consider a move away from the club, if things do not change.

There have been recent news stating an interest from clubs and that the Gunners could possibly listen to offers that are made for the player, as they look to cash in on their defensive superstar. Further, reports have also suggested that Swiss international Ricardo Rodriguez could be all set to join the Londoners, as the club are looking to possibly him this summer.

If a deal for the Wolfsburg man goes through, then the amount of time that Gibbs get on the pitch would be further reduced or one of the two left-backs could be preferably sold. The Englishman will be hoping that the player sold is Monreal, as it is only then that he would have a future at the club, though Rodriguez might become the first choice and he the backup once again.
