If Signed, What Will This Euro 2016-Winning Midfielder Bring To Arsenal’s Armoury?

Danilo Pereira could be on his way to Arsenal

With the transfer window right upon us, it is the time to discuss some of the rumours that have been gaining more strength over the course of the last few weeks, as several Premier League contenders are reportedly going to be quite aggressive during this winter transfer window in order to face this second half of the season.

One of the teams which is keen to make several additions during this upcoming transfer window is Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal, as the Gunners are making yet another push for the Premier League title, but they’ve been kind of falling short over the past few weeks, being bailed out by the last minute penalty in their last fixture.

On top of that, the North London side is also trying to transcend in this year’s UEFA Champions League, and they need to reinforce several spots in their squad if they want to actually compete with the best teams in the world.

Besides, with Alexis Sanchez’s contract conundrum and Santi Cazorla’s injury scares, Wenger is in a desperate need of bringing new talents to the Emirates, and he’s reportedly scouting one of the most impressive talents from the Portuguese tournament and the Euro 2016 winner – Danilo Pereira – but what can this guy bring to the team? Let’s take a moment and discuss it.

Danilo Pereira is a 25-year-old defensive midfielder who currently plays for the Liga NOS side FC Porto, and is one of the main guys for the Portuguese side over the course of the season, as his 21 appearances (all starts) for the Dragoes can demonstrate.

The Portugal native was also a key piece in the Euro 2016 winning team, as he was a complete force in the center of the pitch and completely sealed the midfield of a Portuguese side that didn’t blow anybody away with their game but was extremely effective.

Pereira is the good old fashion ‘ number 5’, a player who works as the main pivot of the team and provides balance in both offence and defence, being an outstanding passer with a great vision of the pitch.

His cover letter is his defensive ability, and his outstanding timing to intercept opposing passes and crosses, as well as having a vastly developed aerial game, becoming a major force on that matter.

His offensive game is yet to be developed, but he won’t have to do that much on offence at the Emirates, and he could provide a much needed defensive balance for the Gunners, considering how injury prone Francis Coquelin is and providing some freedom to Granit Xhaka, who often struggles to get back on defence and makes some dumb fouls and mistakes.

Danilo is quite young and is an old-school player who definitely has what it takes to make it at a physical tournament as the English Premier League, and his durability and health are huge pluses considering all the competitions that the Gunners face regularly, so they should definitely pursue him during this transfer window.
