Should This Talented Man United Star Leave, If Real Madrid Come Calling?

David De Gea

Well, Manchester United have had a lowly campaign this season and one of their brightest players was Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea. The 23 year old keeper was one of the key player for the Red Devils as he solely lifted the spirit of the team during many poor performances, with some outstanding saves. De Gea has managed to keep 12 clean sheets in the Premier League and is expected to grow in stature with each passing seasons.

One of the best young goal-keepers around, David de Gea is deemed to do great things in the future and Real Madrid, one of the many clubs interested in the keeper have the financial might and stature to lure him away from Old Trafford. There have been some recent rumours linking de Gea to Spanish giants Real Madrid in the recent days. The Spanish clubs will definitely want to price away one of Spain’s best goal-keeper and definitely their future. So  when the lucrative offer comes knocking at the door, should de Gea leave for Madrid?

Many players regard Real Madrid is the biggest football club. Well, Man United isn’t any smaller, is it? Probably the biggest club in England, which is having a rare off season, David de Gea has the chance to be through the transition period and become a legend for the club. Man United are solely dependent on de Gea for their present as well as future as he brings much more quality than Anders Lindegaard, who is also a good keeper. Madrid are in a totally different situation, as they have the legendary Iker Casillas and a top class keeper in Diego Lopez. It is somewhat hard to see David de Gea develop in Madrid. They would have top keepers in the team and De Gea, who sometimes has off-days, would lose his spot and may not re-gain it again. With Casillas and Lopez, having much more experience and being in their prime goalkeeping years, David de Gea would definitely be bought as a back-up goal keeper.

Probably it can only be a matter of pride for de Gea to play in Madrid, if he choose to go there, because if it is for money, even Manchester United have enough money to provide him great salaries. What de Gea must see is, Real Madrid are a team that have stars galore in comparison to any team. Manchester United offers him the playing platform, and being the first choice goalkeeper, he automatically becomes one of the most cherished players for the fans and the club. When you play as the first choice, especially in a team which defends rather averagely, de Gea’s contribution is more likely to be noticed. In La Liga, it can be make or break for him as his performances will be judged based on games against the potential title rivals, which are very few in Spain.

David de Gea should continue playing for Manchester United until he gets a solid offer from any Spanish club. And what I mean by a solid offer, is playing regular first team football at the highest level. As of now, it would give him a great deal of experience to play in a transitional team and develop his game.
