Should Manchester United Go For The Next Big Star From Barcelona?

Thiago Alcantara

Manchester United are confident to sign Thiago Alcantara form Barcelona after the player’s father said in an interview that Thiago has done enough waiting for his chance to come regularly in the first team but so far things are not looking positive and the midfielder may thus part his ways with the club. Manchester United, who got their £ 15m offer rejected last summer for the same player are thus now keen to sign him and boost their aging midfield. Thiago has a £ 25m release clause in his contract but United hopes to get him at a much lower price if the player is bent on moving elsewhere.

It is expected that Paul Scholes will retire at the end of the season and unlike his last time, he won’t be making a comeback. Ryan Giggs has also reached the twilight of his career and should not be around for more than one season. In these times United must rejuvenate their midfield and inject fresh blood. Thiago, who has played with the Barcelona first team since 2009, is one of the most eligible man to do so having shared the field with some of the best in the business.

Having played in Spain for so many years he is naturally blessed with ability to keep possession and make precise passes. He can always keep the opposition on their toes and his dribbling is a treat to watch. His long range shots are also with tremendous vigour and accuracy, making him an ideal central midfielder. But the one the area that he is lacking is the physical tenacity which he will be needing in plenty if he has to succeed in the Premier League. But he has age on his side and therefore will be expected to develop rapidly in the next couple of years.

If Sir Alex Ferguson can fit him into the United mould, which may be a bit difficult at the beginning provided his tiki-taka background, he will definitely be a man to watch out for and United will benefit from his transfer immensely.
