Should Liverpool Look To Sign This Box to Box Midfielder From Serie A?

With Jurgen Klopp spending a ton of money on bringing Sadio Mane to the club, it shouldn’t be a surprise that the German is looking to shake things up and work on the deficiencies that plagued Liverpool last time around.

The Reds have already signed a centre-back, a goalkeeper, a young midfielder and with Mane, a winger who has performed admirably in the Premier League with Southampton. The manager now seems to have set his sights for Marcelo Brozovic, the 23-year-old midfielder from Inter Milan.

Klopp would have to spend a lot of money to bring him to the club, given that Brozovic had a brilliant campaign with the Serie A club and starred for Croatia in the recently concluded Euro 2016 competition.

The big question on everyone’s mind is should Liverpool try to sign the rising star of Croatian football?

Too many midfielders at the club?

If we are to look at the number of midfielders at the club, it does speak of a lot of talent but no one really stands out. Emre Can seems to be the one player who is guaranteed a place in the starting XI for Liverpool but even the young German had an inconsistent season for the Reds last time around.

James Milner was another player who did really well but he wasn’t always played in the centre of the park and most of his best games came when he played out wide. Lucas Leiva is another player that would only be used for cover, even though he is the only proper defensive midfielder they have.

The doubts are majorly on the likes of Joe Allen and Jordan Henderson. Allen had a pretty good Euro 2016 competition with Wales and could still get a few games for the side but the future of Jordan Henderson looks a little bleak given that he spent a lot of time injured for the Reds and dint really play to his potential even in the few games he started.

The onus then falls on releasing a few players, which we are sure that Liverpool would do in the summer and to replace them with someone who can actually make the side better. This is exactly where Brozovic comes in.

The midfielder is still 23 years of age but he can play in almost every position in the centre of the park and can even play wide right, akin to James Milner. What makes the Croatian a player that can change things for the Premier League club is the fact that he seems to tick all the boxes that Jurgen Klopp would want for his side.

Brozovic is known for his passing range, which should help him link up with the likes of Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino but the midfielder also has a great engine, which is a real requirement for the Reds with the way the side plays football.

A pairing of Brozovic and Can in midfield would also be perfect as both players can attack as well as defend really well. The Croatian is known for his defensive contribution, something that Liverpool could do with next season as they look to make it back to the top four. He would also ensure that Liverpool have a great, young heart in the team with Can and that would be music to the ears of every Liverpool fan.

The price point might be a touchy issue for the Reds but Inter will play a hard bargain to ensure they hold onto a player they only just signed after he spent a season on loan at the club. Liverpool need to liven up the midfield and Brozovic is the player to do that.
