Should Liverpool Dig Deep Enough To Sign This Hull City Man To Solve The Age Old Problem: Is He The Right Man For Klopp?

Why Andrew Robertson Is Not The Answer For Liverpool’s Left-Back Problems

Liverpool are expected to be a busy club this summer as they will have to improve their current squad if they are to compete at the highest level in Europe next season. Jurgen Klopp has taken them to the Champions League for the first time in more than 2 years and is determined to improve all the areas in the squad for the challenges that lie ahead.

One position he should surely amend is the left-back position. Liverpool stuck with James Milner in the previous season but the English star is not expected to be the first choice next season and Liverpool need a genuine left-back who can come good at the highest stage. One player who has constantly been linked with a move to the club, to fill in this role is Hull City star, Andrew Robertson.

One of the few players who were able to shine in a relegation marred season at the KCOM, Robertson has all the attributes to play at the highest stage in England. An attacking fullback with loads of creativity, the 23-year old scored a goal and an assist last season and was superb for the Tigers on the left flank.

A great passer with sizzling dribbling skills, Robertson is strong and is well aware of his defensive duties. He loves to have the ball at his feet and create chances. Although he is a bit of a liability in the air, is more than an upgrade on Alberto Moreno at Liverpool.

Andrew Robertson

The Reds need to find a player with the right balance between attack and defence, and the Scottish star could be a decent solution. He is still young and will learn the game and should be given a chance at Anfield. However, it is hard to know if he is the right man for Liverpool in the Champions League next season.

Milner, in theory, could deputise until Robertson gets accustomed to the challenges at Anfield but Liverpool need a genuine first team star who can solve the problem for years to come and Robertson does not fit the bill at the moment.

The likes of Kieran Tierney and Benjamin Mendy are also on the list for Liverpool and though the duo is more exciting, they are only as settled as Robertson is, making him a decent transfer target.

Surely, Liverpool will have to dig deep and assess their options carefully, however, limited they are, as they will have to find a long-term solution to the left-back problem, that has been haunting the club for years now. Clearly, Robertson doesn’t seem like the answer to the problem.
