Leicester completing a summer move for this 6ft 2in giant would sort out their defence for a number of years

Leicester City opinion: Should the Foxes sign Bruno Viana?

According to a report from Leicestershire Live, Leicester City and Watford are set for an £8m-£10m battle for SC Braga’s central defender Bruno Viana. The Brazilian has been in fine form for the Portuguese club and he has been one of the main reasons why they are fourth in the league.

Leicester extended Wes Morgan’s contract recently but the skipper, at 35 years of age, will find it difficult to last the season. Jonny Evans is also into his thirties and the former Manchester United man, despite his good performances, has shown a bit of weakness in his game.

Summer signing Caglar Soyuncu has massively struggled in the Premier League and the young Turk’s confidence has been low all season. This leaves Leicester with just Harry Maguire, who has been their best defender by a country mile, but the Englishman needs a worthy partner.

Brendan Rodgers, in his first transfer window as Leicester boss, will be looking to make an impact with his signings in the summer and by signing Bruno Viana, he can show the Leicester fans that he is here to stay.

Viana has been a regular for Braga this season and has played the full 90 minutes in all but one game. The Brazilian has been a rock at the back and has helped his side keep 13 clean sheets in 26 games in the Liga NOS so far.

Standing at 6ft 2in tall, Viana is an absolute menace in the air and thrives in a physical battle. The 24-year-old will settle into the Premier League in no time and his physicality will be a perfect fit in the English top-flight.

Viana is also brilliant with his tackling and the Brazilian more often than not comes out clean without conceding a foul. His anticipation of danger is very good and his quick burst of pace allows him to get in between the opponent and the ball to successfully intercept a pass.

The Brazilian is a fantastic passer of the ball too and is capable of delivering brilliant cross-field balls with pin-point accuracy. This trait will be a massive hit in a side like Leicester, where his long balls can set Jamie Vardy through on goal.

Conclusion

Bruno Viana has all the characteristics to be a top defender and a move to the Premier League will only help him achieve his full potential.

The Brazilian is the kind of defender who Leicester need next to Harry Maguire whose positional discipline combined with Viana’s aggression could take the Foxes defence to the next level.
