Should Chelsea Replace The Under-performing Brazilian With This Talented Spaniard?

It seems that Chelsea are going all out to sign midfielder and Copa America winner Charles Aranguiz. However, they are also looking to sign a creative midfielder with tremendous versatility and their shopping spree shortlist includes amazing world class players in the likes of Paul Pogba, Mario Götze and obviously Isco. According to reports of major tabloids like the Express, Guardian and Metro Chelsea have made an audacious bid of £20m for Real Madrid midfielder Francisco Román Alarcón or Isco as he is called.

Isco joined Real Madrid from Malaga CF in the summer of 2013 for a transfer fee of around £23m and his progress has been staggering. He played a crucial role in Madrid’s amazing campaign and helped them achieve the long awaited ‘La Decima’. With Chelsea interested in signing the talented midfielder we analyze how Isco would fit in the Blues squad.

Strengths, Weaknesses and Style of Play:

Isco is one of the best midfielders in the present day and can occupy virtually any midfield position. Under Carlo Ancelotti he majorly played as a midfielder and on the left flank. He can play on the right flank and the crucial no.10 spot whenever called for. Isco’s style of play is quite regular as a midfielder as he likes to dribble past his opponents, does layoffs and plays short passes. His major asset is his imagination, technique and creativity with and without the ball. The Spaniard’s passing skills have got the team reeling and he has been the key link to develop attacks for the Galacticos.

His pass success percentage ranges around 88% which is quite high. His dribbling skills have been classic and would be amazing to see if he is heading to Stamford Bridge. Another major asset that Isco has been showing is holding on to the ball. The Spaniard may not have the best and strongest of the statures but is good in keeping hold of the ball. Also, his long shots are worth a mention. Be it possession play or counter attack Isco can mould his game very well and he complements Luka Modric and Toni Kroos with ease.

Isco can boast about six goals and nine assists in his last season. However, there are a few drawbacks which Isco might just want to correct for achieving the best. His crossing abilities have been doubted and his crosses are something he would like to improve upon. Also, his aerial duels are something in which he hasn’t done well due to his stature and should look to improve upon.

Conclusion:

Isco would be an amazing acquisition for Chelsea and would make them stronger than the season before. However, £20m for Isco is way to less I feel and Mourinho needs to improve the offer. Also, to bring in Isco would be a wise move as Oscar has under-performed last season and he might leave Stamford Bridge.
