Sheffield United signing this highly talented Chelsea prodigy would be a fantastic January move by Wilder

Why Sheffield United must make a move for Ethan Ampadu in January

According to a report from the Metro, Chelsea are willing to let Ethan Ampadu leave Stamford Bridge on loan in January for regular opportunities.

The teenage sensation joined Chelsea from Exeter City in 2017 and made seven appearances under Antonio Conte last term. Ethan Ampadu has also become a Wales international following a rapid rise in the last 12 months but is yet to feature under new Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri this season.

The Welshman is certainly seen as a part of the Blues’ long-term strategy given that he signed a new five-year contract just two months ago. As Ethan Ampadu has been given the green light by Chelsea to seek pastures new until the end of the season, Sheffield United must make a move for the talented midfielder in January.

Sheffield United have enjoyed a solid start to the new Championship season and are currently placed fourth on the table with 30 points after 17 games. The Blades are just three points shy of the top spot, which is currently owned by Norwich City.

Chris Wilder has a talented squad at his disposal and he’ll be aiming to get promoted to the Premier League this term. But he needs a couple of reinforcements in January to boost his squad for the taxing second half of the season.

With injuries and suspensions a part and parcel of the game, Sheffield United need to have a strong squad to get stand a chance of getting promoted.

In that case, signing the highly-rated Ethan Ampadu makes sense. The Welsh youngster featured extensively in Chelsea’s pre-season, but it’s become clear that he has no role under Maurizio Sarri at present.

So it makes sense that Ampadu should get some serious football under his belt in the second half of the season instead of wasting a year at the periphery of Stamford Bridge.

The Wales international would get ample opportunities at Sheffield United. As Ampadu is adept at playing in the midfield and the defence, Wilder would be able to make the most use of the player’s flexibility as his team could get stretched in the second half of the season. The 18-year-old would offer the Blades some great technical ability in possession and strong defensive qualities.

Overall, Ampadu is a really good player who has the qualities to be an asset for any team. And if Sheffield United persuade him to move to Bramall Lane on loan, then Wilder’s side would be making a brilliant signing.
