Sheffield United opinion: The Blades must snap up Scott Sinclair

According to a report from The Sun, Sheffield United are interested in signing Celtic ace, Scott Sinclair, but will face competition from Middlesbrough.

Scott Sinclair, 30, has been one of the most important players for Celtic over the last three seasons. He has scored over 50 goals for the Hoops in that time, being a part of the club’s historic treble ‘Treble’ last season.

In fact, the speedy winger was Player of the Year in his first season at Parkhead. However, Sinclair has been in and out of the side in the last 12 months and Celtic have given him the permission to leave for £2million, adds the report.

Sheffield United are yet to kick-start their summer spending, following promotion from the Championship last month, unlike their fellow newly-promoted clubs Norwich City and Aston Villa.

Chris Wilder will not have a huge transfer kitty so he’ll have to smartly recruit players this summer. Not only that, but the Blades boss must also offload the deadwood to free up some funds as well as space in the squad.

The Yorkshire-based club are currently crying out for reinforcements in the forward department. United require more pace and creativity in their team if they are to survive the first season back in the Premier League.

Also, the likes of Billy Sharp, David McGoldrick and Mark Duffy need more competition and support in the attack next term.

So, signing an experienced forward, who can regularly supply with assists and goals has to be Wilder’s priority.

Available for around £2million , the Blades must bring in Sinclair, who has extensive experience in the top-flight of English football, having played for six different clubs, including Swansea City, Aston Villa and Manchester City.

Sinclair has been a fantastic player for Celtic and even though the last season was not one of his best for the club, he still ended up with 17 goals for the Scottish champions.

A tricky and unpredictable winger, the 30-year-old loves to dribble past players and put in teasing crosses in the box. He is comfortable playing on both flanks and can also operate through the middle when required.

The ex-Swansea star is good with the ball at his feet, can dribble past players, possesses electric pace, is physically strong and is committed to working for the team off the ball.

He’ll add creativity and a touch of flair to Sheffield United’s attack, whilst being the team’s ‘X’ factor. Even though Wilder’s system doesn’t involve wingers, Sinclair could potentially form a good partnership with Sharp up front or replace the ageing Duffy in the no.10 role.

Verdict

All in all, we can conclude by saying that Wilder’s side shouldn’t hesitate to splash the cash to sign Sinclair from Celtic.
