Sheffield United opinion: Blades in for Ollie Watkins – Good move?

According to a report in Sky Sports, Premier League new boys Sheffield United are interested in signing Brentford forward Ollie Watkins this summer.

The 23-year-old enjoyed another superb campaign in the Championship, where he managed to score 10 goals and supply 8 assists in 41 appearances.

On the other hand, Blades manager Chris Wilder is looking strengthen his squad as they look ahead to their first top-flight season since 2007. And Watkins is one of the transfer targets (h/t Sky Sports).

Along with them, Crystal Palace and Southampton are also tracking the player. The latter have been long-term admirers and are expected to revisit their interest this summer (h/t Sky Sports).

Predominantly a right-winger, Ollie Watkins can play as a leading striker, support striker or on the wing. He possesses great pace to stretch the defence and make runs in behind.

On the ball, the 23-year-old is good at dribbling past defenders, delivering good crosses into the box from the wing and is good at shooting on target.

Sheffield United could do with someone of his calibre in their squad. Wilder generally prefers to play a 3-5-2 formation, hence, Watkins can play as a support striker behind Billy Sharp.

The Brentford man’s goal-scoring prowess and sharpness in and around the opposition box would help the Blades add an extra dimension to their forward line.
