Sheffield United have announced the signing of Ravel Morrison on a deal for a year. The former Manchester United academy graduate has moved back to the Premier League and the Blades faithful will be hoping for him to fulfil the potential he showed when he first burst onto the scene.
Morrison has been a bit of journeyman since his exit from United, having had spells with West Ham, Birmingham City, Queens Park Rangers, Cardiff City, Lazio, Atlas and Ostersund. He’s had incredible talent but he could never apply it on the pitch and he’ll be hoping that changes with this move.
Morrison still has a lot of time at the age of 26 to change his future and he’ll be hoping this is a chance that he can capitalize on as a career in football isn’t a very long one. Morrison’s career has stalled due to off the field issues and injury concerns.
Morrison was part of a very successful United youth side, where he was the most talented player in a side that had the likes of Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Adnan Januzaj and Michael Keane.
Pogba and Lingard have won a lot of silverware since, whereas Keane and Januzaj have finally settled at their other clubs with senior roles. However, Morrison has really struggled to live up to the billing and it’s a real shame.
A phenomenally talented dribbler, Morrison was often compared to English legend Paul Gascoigne as he’d make dazzling runs from midfield to attack by dribbling through the length of the pitch. However, his troubled mentality always came in the way.
Chris Wilder has got this Sheffield United side to play as a team and will be hoping that Morrison’s individual talent might shine through in a few games to give their team that little bit of an x-factor that they might be lacking at this moment in time.
It is a massive achievement for the Blades to be playing in the Premier League again and they’ll be hoping that they can improve upon it by surviving the season and building on it in the future.

Morrison wouldn’t have much trouble fitting into Chris Wilder’s system as he’s a bit of luxury player. Wilder’s 3-man backline will give him enough defensive and midfield protection to allow him to do what he’s best at.
There is a longing that Ravel Morrison can hopefully find his footing again and such chances don’t come often. He could be an absolute revelation.
