Sheffield United going all out to sign this 60-goal Celtic star in January would reinforce their frontline like no other

Why Sheffield United should plot a January swoop for Scott Sinclair

According to a report from the Scottish Sun, Celtic forward Scott Sinclair rejected a move to the MLS this season due to family reasons.

Scott Sinclair, 30, has been at Celtic since his 2016 move from Aston Villa, as he chose to reunite with his former Swansea City and Liverpool coach Brendan Rodgers. He racked up 60 goals in 153 games for the Hoops before the start of this season but he has been frozen out by manager Neil Lennon so far.

It’s puzzling for the fans to see Lewis Morgan ahead of Sinclair after the 30-year-old’s successful few seasons at the club. It is a difficult situation for the speedy winger, but there’s no doubt he still has the ability to be a positive factor for the Hoops this season.

Sheffield United had been linked with Sinclair but with the English transfer window now closed, there is no prospect of him moving south before January. While it is likely he will remain at Celtic now, Sheffield United must reignite their interest and attempt to sign the 30-year-old in the winter transfer window.

The Blades spent a lot of money in the summer transfer window in a bid to build a squad capable of surviving in the Premier League. Chis Wilder should be happy with the business done in the transfer market, however, he could be worried about the depth of his squad.

As the Premier League season progresses, injuries and suspensions will pile up. Furthermore, there will be cup competitions to negotiate as well. For tackling everything, United need more strength to their depth, especially in the attacking department. And Scott Sinclair could be an ideal player for Wilder to target in the New Year.

A fast, strong and creative winger with good technique, dribbling skills and an eye for goal, Sinclair has had a fantastic time at Celtic. He might have struggled to break into the team under Lennon this season, but he still remains a quality player at 30 years old.

The Englishman has really good experience of the Premier League, having turned out for six different clubs, including Swansea City, Aston Villa and Manchester City.

The ex-Aston Villa man will add a touch of flair and unpredictability to the Blades’ attack, while he can also be a good option to have from the bench. Even at 30, Sinclair can still give a couple of quality years at the highest level and be a good squad option.

Verdict

With Sinclair having a contract at Parkhead until 2020, Sheffield United should definitely eye a cut-price deal in January to bolster their hopes of beating the drop.
