Sheffield United opinion – Blades should beat others for Josh Brownhill

According to a report in Bristol Post, Premier League newcomers Sheffield United are among the host of clubs interested in signing Bristol City midfielder Josh Brownhill. Brighton, Leeds United and Derby County are also in the race.

The former Preston man had an impressive season for the Robins, where he managed to score five goals and provide four assists in 45 league appearances.

Currently, his contract expires in the summer of 2021, meaning Lee Johnson’s men are under no pressure to sell the player. (h/t Bristol Post)

This, in turn, indicates that if either of the interested clubs want to make a move in this transfer window, then the 23-year-old won’t come on a cut-price deal. (h/t Bristol Post)

Despite that, here’s why Sheffield United should take centre-stage and beat others in the race to sign the midfield prodigy:

Blades would need more depth in midfield

Blades’ manager Chris Wilder has a very good group of first-choice midfielders at his disposal. However, he doesn’t have enough backup in those positions to help the squad during an intense period of games.

For that reason, being linked with one of the better Championship midfielders is not a bad thing at all. Josh Brownhill is a versatile player who can operate in various positions across the midfield.

Wilder has two chief systems in his locker – 3-4-1-2 and 3-5-2. While the Bristol City man can play as a number 10 behind the strikers in the former, he can operate as one of the wide midfielders in the latter.

In terms of attributes, the 23-year-old possesses good turn of pace on the ball, is physically strong in duels, delivers key passes for the forward runners, can dribble past people in tight areas to create space and works hard for the team to retrieve possession.

Conclusion

Hence, it makes sense for the Blades to make a move for Brownhill this summer. They might have to be proactive as other clubs are also on the prowl.
