Serie A Team Of The Week: Round five

Serie A

As we prepare to the big show down between Juventus and Roma next week, both teams continued their winning streak, but it was Cagliari who made the headlines this weekend, humiliating Inter at the Meazza.

So who was the top of this week? Let’s find out:

Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus): Didn’t do much except for his classic penalty save, which if it was scored, it would have changed the course of the game entirely, that’s why he deserves to be on the team of this week.

Alessio Romagnoli (Sampdoria): For the 2nd consecutive week the Roma youth product make it to the team of the round, this time leading his team to hard fought victory at the “derby della lanterna”, showing leadership and versatility despite the absence of Gastaldello.

Luis Pedro Cavanda (Lazio): Dominated the right flank with his burst and speed. Was always there on the support for Candreva or Felipe. excellent night for the Belgian.

Miguel Britos (Napoli): Despite playing out of position out wide, still the Uruguayan was his team’s best player. He showed his usual defensive abilities & contributing positively as well in the attack.

Mapou Yanga Mbiwa (AS Roma): Excellent showing by the French center back, always alert & first on every ball with his great anticipation sense, forming a solid pair with Manolas despite both being considered as second choices!

Seydou Keita (AS Roma): Looked extremely comfortable in the deep lying midfield spot usually occupied by De Rossi, and dictated the pace of the game well for the Romans with his passing & experience.

Albin Ekdal (Cagliari): A day to remember for the young Swedish, scoring a hatrick and putting his best performance in Serie A so far to help the “Sardinians” conquer the Meazza.

Victor Ibarbo (Cagliari): Finally looked to be regaining his form, his pace had no answer from the Nerazzurri defenses and was almost involved in all the goals scored by his team.

Antonio Di Natale (Udinese): Old is gold, that’s what can be said about “Toto”, scored a double for Stramacioni’s men to help them beat Parma and continue their excellent start for the season.

Carlos Tevez (Juventus): Again “Carlito” makes it to our team, this time scoring a double against Atalanta in the “Atleti Azzurri” . Has really turned into the leader of this new Juventus of Allegri.

Filip Djordjevic (Lazio): Silenced all his critics with an amazing hatrick and magnificent showing at the “Renzo Barbera” to hand Lazio their first win of the season. Klose will find it difficult this season if this guy keep his form.

Honorable mentions: Marco Parolo & Stefan De Vrij (Lazio), Adil Rami (AC Milan), Paul Pogba (Juventus), Alesandro Florenzi (AS Roma), Dario Dainelli (Chievo), Lorenzo Tonelli (Empoli) and Franco Vazquez (Palermo).
