A Dream Manchester City XI With Alexis Sanchez In The Mix

Manchester City are leaving no stones unturned in their chase of Arsenal attacker Alexis Sanchez. The Chilean has been at the top of the Citizens’ shopping list after he entered the final 12 months of his contract with the Gunners and negotiations over a new deal stalled.

The lack of Champions League football at the Emirates played a major part, with Sanchez claiming publicly that he wants to be playing in Europe’s premiere club footballing event. And with the deadline day fast approaching, the Mirror claims that the Sky Blues are set to offer a stunning player-plus-cash deal in order to push through a deal for the 28-year old before Thursday.

The report claims that City are prepared to use England international Raheem Sterling as a makeweight in the deal, sending the former Liverpool man the other way in order for City to sign Sanchez. It remains to be seen if Arsenal would agree to the swap plus money deal, but the Chilean’s move to the Etihad looks set to happen. If Sanchez does end up joining Manchester City, here’s how they could line up with their latest star acquisition.

Manager: Pep Guardiola

Formation: 3-1-4-2

Ederson Moraes (GK)

The Brazilian has had a decent start to life in England, after joining the club earlier this summer. Will be the No.1 for City.

Vincent Kompany (CB)

The captain has started the season fit and fine and looks in good touch. He would want to enjoy an injury-free campaign.

John Stones (CB)

The England international had a sloppy debut season with the Citizens. Will be looking to redeem himself and impress this time.

Alexis Sanchez

Nicolas Otamendi (CB)

The Argentine will continue to occupy the third slot in the three-man backline for Guardiola. Needs to perform consistently.

Fernandinho (DM)

The Brazilian is the first-choice in the defensive midfield position for the Citizens and rightly so. He offers a strong shield to the backline, while occasionally getting forward as well.

Kyle Walker (RWB)

The England international has had a positive start to life at the Etihad, following his big money move from Tottenham. Will be ahead of Danilo in the pecking order.

Kevin De Bruyne (CM)

The former Chelsea man is yet to find his best form this season, but he remains an extremely vital player for the Citizens and is a definite starter in the midfield.

David Silva (CM)

De Bruyne will be accompanied by his usual partner in crime, David Silva, in the middle of the park. There are not many better players than him in the attacking midfield areas who can pull the strings as effectively as he does.

Alexis Sanchez

Benjamin Mendy (LWB)

Mendy made his debut for City last weekend and impressed. Will be the automatic first-choice at left wing-back this season.

Gabriel Jesus (ST)

Guardiola has preferred the youngster ahead of Sergio Aguero and we might see that continue in the coming weeks as well.

Alexis Sanchez (ST)

If the Chilean does arrive, he will occupy the starting spot alongside Jesus at the top of City’s line-up. He impressed playing in a central role last season and will be a much better fit than Aguero, in Guardiola’s style of play.
