Sergej Milinkovic-Savic vs Jean Michael Seri – Stats Show That Manchester United Should Go For The Former

Manchester United are interested in securing a summer deal for Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic (The Metro) and OGC Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri (Manchester Evening News).

Both players have been exceptional this season and if United manage to sign either of them, it will be a good deal for the club. However, there will be other clubs competing for their signatures but Jose Mourinho must ensure that the Red Devils come out on top.

Milinkovic-Savic and Seri are central midfielders by trade but their style of play is quite different. The Nice star is adept at playing the role of a holding midfielder but he can also attack the opposition to cause them troubles.

Meanwhile, the Lazio sensation seems like an out-and-out attacker. That said, his defensive contributions are decent enough and it could be a tough choice for Mourinho to choose between the two.

However, if it does come down to a choice, which player should the Portuguese gaffer bring to Old Trafford this summer?

The Stats

Having appeared 37 times across competitions for Lazio this season, Milinkovic-Savic has contributed 11 goals and 4 assists. He averages a healthy 2.4 shots per game while his pass success rate stands at 79.9%. He wins about 2.3 aerial duels per match and makes an average of 1.6 key passes and 1.8 dribbles per game. In addition to that, Milinkovic-Savic has created a total of 46 chances in 26 Serie A games this term.

As far as his defensive work is concerned, the player makes an average of 1.7 tackles, 0.8 interceptions and 0.8 tackles per game.

Seri, on the other hand, has appeared 35 times in all competitions for Nice. He has chipped in with a solitary goal and 5 assists so far, averaging 1 shot per game. His pass success rate stands at a whopping 90.8% but the player is quite weak in the air, winning merely 0.4 aerial duels per game. He averages 2.1 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per game and Seri has also created 49 chances in 23 Ligue 1 games.

However, when it comes to defensive contribution, Seri has only managed to make an average of 0.9 tackles, 0.5 interceptions and 0.5 clearances per game.

It is indeed a tough task to choose between the two since their pros and cons appear to outweigh each other. Both players appear to be on par with each other on a lot of fronts but in my opinion, United are likely to benefit from signing Milinkovic-Savic rather than Seri.

The Ivory Coast international is talented but the Lazio man seems like an all-around package when compared to Seri.
