Why Selling This Young & Dynamic Duo Can Be A Disaster For Manchester United This Summer

Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United are currently unbeaten in the Premier League this year and have slowly started to move closer to a place in the top-4 in the points table. The manager spent loads of money on top transfer targets in the summer but he is evidently unhappy with the options at his disposal and is looking to add a few players to the squad at the end of the season.

However, the Red Devils are also set to let a few players leave and the reports in England suggest that Jose Mourinho might let a couple of his star players leave this summer. French sensation Anthony Martial and English defender Luke Shaw are two of the young prodigies that are currently plying their trade at the Old Trafford and recent reports suggest that both the players are unsettled at the moment and Mourinho might sell the duo in the summer.

Luke Shaw, whose career has been hampered by injuries, is one of the most exciting full-backs in the country and he was expected to be the first choice for Manchester United for years to come. However, he has not been able to impress the manager recently and has not even been able to get into the first team, even after returning to full fitness. He may yet be used regularly in the cup game but Mourinho is reportedly open to selling him and wants to replace him with a top quality star.

Anthony Martial, the striker who announced himself at the Old Trafford with a scintillating goal on his debut against Liverpool, has been fighting for his place in the side recently. He is far from being a first choice winger for Mourinho and reports earlier this month revealed that he is growing frustrated and wants to play elsewhere regularly, but that were extensively denied. Both players are still to prove themselves to the new manager at the Old Trafford but selling them in the summer could be nothing less than a disaster and here is why:

Linked with a move to Tottenham, the 21-year old English left-back is yet to establish himself in the first team at Manchester United but he has already shown great potential in his time at the St Marys’. He has already earned a cap for the national side but his biggest issue has been his injury history. Shaw missed a big chunk of the first half of the season through injury, at a time when he was starting to show some promise and Mourinho should give him another chance before off-loading him at a tender age.

If Shaw’s rumour makes little sense, Martial’srumourss make even less sense as the 21-year old is yet to get into his grove. Attacking players need regular game time to get used to the expectations from the team, but Martial has not started 3 consecutive games this season in any competition. At his age, he has plenty of time to improve and will only get better the more he plays and he will hope that Mourinho gives him a chance in his preferred position as a striker for at least a few games this season.

Both player, who are at the beginning of their career, are potential superstars and Jose Mourinho will not want to regret selling them in the future. They need not look too far away than Paul Pogba, the sensational midfielder who left the club for free but came back just a few years later, for a world record fee. There are not many quality options available for either position in the market at a reasonable price and Manchester United should give them ample opportunities before writing them off as liabilities.

Do you think Mourinho should sell Luke Shaw and Anthony Martial this summer?
