Scouting Report: Joshua Onomah, The Next Big Thing After Harry Kane At Tottenham?

Scouting Report: Joshua Onomah

What is going on at Tottenham? That would be the question on everyone’s lips this season as Mauricio Pochettino has found some kind of youth hack and brings in quality youngsters through the academy. Sure some of the players were already there at the club before the Argentine came to White Hart Lane but it is Pochettino who is giving these starlets a chance to show what they can do. Harry Kane is one such gem to come through from Spurs academy.

Another player who has made a handful of appearances this season for Spurs is Joshua Onomah, a through and through Tottenham product and with six appearances to his name for the club. We provide a few more details as to why this youngster is regarded so highly within Tottenham.

A born Spurs player

Onomah has always played for the Tottenham youth team and is best suited to an attacking role, though he can play a little deeper in midfield, to get the best out of him, he needs to be placed just behind the striker.

Onomah is versatile enough to even be deployed on the wing, given his attacking abilities. He has a great range of passing and is almost inch perfect when giving the ball to his teammates from a deep position.

His greatest asset is his ability to run with the ball, dribbling and running at defences is something that he loves to do and is extremely good at. He also is extremely physical despite being only 18-years of age, he still has a few years of development left in him and that could turn him into a monster in midfield.

Onomah also has great vision and movement, something which usually takes a long time for a player to learn over the years. The England U19 player also loves to link up with his attacking players and is firmly placed in a future advanced role in the team.

While Onomah has some time on his hands to grow and develop, he must understand there is a pecking order at Tottenham which means he won’t get as many chances as expected in the first team.

The Europa League is his best bet of playing games and that is where in one specific game, he showed all his class and ability. The game against Monaco was the one where Joshua proved to the fans that he is ready to play in the big time and Pochettino would be extremely happy with the output of the youngster as he seems to have found another diamond in the rough.
