Not much has gone right for former Real Madrid and Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho since the start of his career as a manager of the Old Trafford outfit Manchester United. The manager made some big money signings adding top class quality top the squad but lack of form along with injuries has seen the side fall to 6th place in the points table, 8 points off the top, 11 games into the season. Mourinho spent close to £150m in the summer but is evidently unhappy with the squad at his disposal. So it does not come as a surprise that he wants to add some more players to the squad. He is ready to let a few players go to make some space in the squad and will be ready to spend the cash when the window reopens in January. With half of the season still left at the time, here are 2 signings that might turn their season around:

Mesut Ozil (Arsenal):

One of the biggest stories coming out in this international break is Manchester United’s interest in Arsenal star Mesut Ozil. The German international provided 19 assists in the Premier League last season and has added goals to his game this campaign. His contract will come to end after the end of the next season and Wenger is yet to persuade him to put pen to paper. There will be a feeling of déjàvu for the Arsenal fans who saw Dutch international Robin van Persie make the switch to Manchester after failing to extend his contract.

Ozil is currently settled at Arsenal and is not looking to leave but if Mourinho is desperate and offers an offer that is too good to refuse for the player, Manchester United may well be able to pull off the transfer of the year in January. Ozil will be a top class addition for United who can come back on track with his expertise in front of goal.

Jose Gimenez (Atletico Madrid):

The 21-year old Uruguay defender is one of the most exciting prospects in world football in his position. Playing for Atletico Madrid, Gimenez has started just two games in all competitions so far this season for the Spanish outfit but Diego Simeone is adamant that he will not let him leave anytime soon. Manchester United are hit with an injury crisis and may miss Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling till the turn of the year and it might be time for Mourinho to snap up the youngster in the summer.

Mourinho can offer Gimenez regular game time that he will not get in Spain and if United are ready to meet his valuation to his signature, he can turn out to be the player who can get their campaign on tract next year. At his age, he is also a long-term option and will surely be worth the effort and money to snatch him up in January before someone calls dibs next summer.
